  1. Be sure to address each of the criteria in the description of the award. If there is no specific criteria, pay careful attention to the purpose of the award and address the elements of the description.
  2. Do not use ANY abbreviations except VA, USAF, USA, USPHS, USN, USMC. Remember the people scoring the nomination likely have no idea what your Agency's unique abbreviations mean.
  3. Where the individuals grade (e.g. Captain, Colonel) is required and the nominee is a civil servant, be sure to include the appropriate GS grade (GS14) or indicate "SES" if the person is in the Senior Executive Service or a political appointee in the Executive Service.
  4. Do not cut and paste an individual's annual/officer/enlisted performance report. Create a cohesive narrative in blocks of information that match the criteria or elements of the award (as outlined in Instruction 1).
  5. All award recipients in 2006 & 2007 are not eligible for an AMSUS Award in 2008.
  6. All military and federal government personal are eligible for an AMSUS award. You do not have to be a member to nominate or receive a nomination; although, we strongly encourage and look favorably upon AMSUS membership.
  7. All essay awards need to be submitted by the author.
  8. Award nominations will not be accepted via snail mail or fax.
