This continuing education activity is provided through a collaboration between AMSUS and AffinityCE (formerly PESG). Learning Outcomes

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Executives, Dentists & Dental Professionals, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians:

  • Discuss the changing paradigm of pain management that has occurred over the last 18 years
  • Describe the unintended consequences related to the historical reliance on numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain assessment and treatment; to include relationship with the nation’s epidemic of opioid overuse, abuse, and overdoses
  • Identify the priorities and strategies within the DoD and VA pain management strategies and initiatives
  • Explain the DoD implementation plan for the Stepped Care Model of Pain Management

Psychologists:

  • Describe the changing paradigm of pain management that has occurred over the last 18 years and its relation to addiction as a rising behavioral health
  • Discuss the nation’s epidemic of opioid overuse, abuse, and overdoses, and the

psychiatric/psychological effect of chronic pain and addiction in patient populations.

  • Identify priorities within the DoD and VA related to pain management strategies and initiatives to improve mental and behavioral health outcomes for patients suffering from chronic pain and opioid
  • Explain the DoD implementation plan for the Stepped Care Model of Pain Management

Physicians

CE for nurses is provided for this program through collaboration between AMSUS and AffinityCE. AffinityCE is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). This activity provides a maximum of 3.5 contact hours of nurse CE credit.

Nurse Practitioners

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation Standards of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) through the joint providership of AffinityCE and AMSUS. AffinityCE is accredited by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as an approved provider of nurse practitioner continuing education. Provider number: 031105.

This activity provides up to 3.5 hours of CE Credit. There is no cost to participate in these CE sessions.

Dentists and Dental Professionals
This continuing education activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) through joint efforts between AffinityCE and NYCOMS. AffinityCE is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual activities of instructions, nor does it imply accordance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. AffinityCE designates this activity for up to 3.5 hours of continuing education credits. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider or to the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition at ADA.org/CERP.

Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians

AffinityCE is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Health Care Executives

AffinityCE is authorized to award 3.5 hours of pre-approved American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement, or recertification in the

ACHE. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the ACHE for advancement or recertification.

Psychologists

AffinityCE is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AffinityCE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

This activity provides up to 3.5 hours of CE Credit. The instructional level of this activity is intermediate. There is no cost to participate in these CE sessions.

Other Professionals

All other health care professionals completing this continuing education activity will be issued a Certificate of Participation indicating the number of hours of continuing education credit. This may be used for professional education CE credit. Please consult your accrediting organization or licensing board for their acceptance of this CE activity.
