MHS Presents Successful Interaction with the Stepped Care Model

USO Warrior and Family Center Ft Belvoir, Live Activity: Friday September 28, 8am-12pm Continuing Education Information

This continuing education activity is provided through collaboration between the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States and Professional Education Services Group/AffnityCE (PESG/ACE). This activity provides continuing education credit for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, health care executives, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and  psychologists, as well  as a general participation certificate for other attendees.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and structure, as well as implement the MHS Stepped Care Model in daily clinical care
  • Recognize the unintended consequences related to the historical reliance on numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain assessment and treatment; to include relationship with the nation’s epidemic of opioid overuse, abuse, and overdoses
  • Summarize current NCPMP efforts to provide support and additional clinical resources to the deckplate to successfully implement the SCM
  • Discuss the impact of early access to physical therapy as it relates to utilization of additional healthcare resources, patient outcomes, and cost
  • Interpret normal pain responses from abnormal pain responses and list strategies to assist patients in understanding the source of these differences

How to Earn CE Credit

  3. Enter an e-mail address and password to begin setting up your profile. Select “I Forgot My Password” if you need to reset the password you set
  4. Verify, correct, or add your
  5. Proceed and complete the activity evaluation for each session you attend.
  6. Upon completing your evaluations, you can print your CE Your CE record will also be stored here for later retrieval.
  7. The website is open for completing your evaluation for 14 days after the event until 10/12/18.
  8. Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician CE records will be electronically communicated to CPE
  9. After the website has closed, you can come back to the site at any time to print your certificate, but you will not be able to add any

Nurses

CE for nurses is provided for this program through collaboration between AMSUS and Professional Education Services Group (PESG). Professional Education Services Group is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). This activity provides a maximum of 4.0 contact hours of nurse CE credit.

Nurse Practitioners

PESG is accredited by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an approved provider of nurse practitioner continuing education. Provider number: 031105. This course is offered for up to 4.0 contact hours (which includes 0 hours of pharmacology).

Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians

Professional Education Services Group is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This knowledge based activity will provide a maximum of 4.0 contact hours for participants attending all conference CPE activities. UANs are provided for each session. Participant CE records will be electronically communicated to CPE Monitor. The cost to participate in these CE sessions is included in the registration cost for the Conference. Psychologists

Professional Education Services Group (PESG) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Professional Education Services Group maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

This activity provides up to 4.0 hours of CE Credit. The instructional level of this activity is intermediate. The cost to participate in these CE sessions is included in the registration cost for the Conference.

Psychologist Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the purpose, structure, and implementation of the MHS Stepped Care Model in daily psychological care
  • Recognize the unintended consequences related to the historical reliance on numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain assessment and treatment, and how it relates to the nation’s epidemic of opioid overuse, abuse, and overdoses

  • Discuss the impact of early access to physical therapy as it relates to utilization of additional healthcare resources, patient outcomes, and cost for the psychological patient

Health Care Executives

PESG is authorized to award up to 4 hours of pre-approved American College of Healthcare Executive (ACHE) Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement, or recertification in the ACHE. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the ACHE for advancement or recertification.

Other Professionals

All other health care professionals completing this continuing education activity will be issued a Certificate of Participation indicating the number of hours of continuing education credit. This may be used for professional education CE credit. Please consult your accrediting organization or licensing board for their acceptance of this CE activity.
