AMSUS' Board of Directors  is responsible for the overall management and operation of AMSUS. It approves the annual budget and annual audit, monitors and approves the AMSUS investment program, appoints and supervises the Executive Director, and delegates authority as appropriate to the Executive Director.

Sylvia Trent-Adams is a retired Rear Admiral Upper Half of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, with a 28-year career in public health, retiring in 2020. From 2015 to 2018, she was the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Trent-Adams is the president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
